January 2010 News

Happy New Year from the maintenance department!  We hope everyone had a safe and joyous holiday season.  On behalf of our crew at Southern Pines, we want to thank every one of you that made contributions to the employee Christmas fund.  Your gratitude is really appreciated.  We try very hard to make your outing at Southern Pines enjoyable.
The recent frosts have sent our greens into dormancy.  Ball marks, as you can see, do not heal.  Please repair your ball marks to ensure smooth ball roll through the winter months.  With the frost we encounter tee time delays, so please be patient.  Damage to the "crowns" of plants are caused when traffic is allowed on frozen or frost covered plants.  You may think you have not injured the plant, but the results are often not visual till spring green-up.
Cart traffic is a concern now that the grass is dormant.  Traffic in the same areas result in bare dirt.  Please use judgment in your travels.  Limit your travel in the rough and use the cart path as much as possible.

Happy Golfing in 2010!
